In this blog post I will be discussing the Protosphyraena.
This prehistoric fish was
a carnivore. It
was 8 ft. long. It was a medium-size predator fish that lived in the
late Cretaceous seas. It had a long sword like snout and blade like
teeth. Its teeth were positioned to stab fleeing prey. It had long,
bony pectoral like saw blades as well. Fully grown adult
averaged between 6 to nine ft. long. Complete
skeletons of Protosphyraena are very rare. Like other late Cretaceous
sea monster, Protosphyraena most likely went extinct 65 million years
ago.
This is the picture of a Protosphyraena. I found this picture on animals.nationalgeographic.com.
